Job summary:

DTx is looking for a computer vision researcher to integrate its Computer Graphics and Vision Group (CGV), within the project “BE.Neutral” ref. C644874240-00000016, financed by PRR – Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência within the call n. º: 2022-C05i0101-02 – Agendas para a Inovação Empresarial. BE.Neutral has the ambition to position Portugal as an exporter of cyber-physical products with zero carbon mobility to cities all over the world. It was designed from the opportunity to develop, industrialize and operate new cyber-physical products (physical devices, connectivity and data science platforms), capable of real-time quantification of avoided emissions to accelerate carbon neutrality by 2030. With the leadership of NOS, the consortium includes 44 partners (29 companies, 14 ENESII and 1 cluster) and 8 cities as environments for the development, testing and demonstration of products and services. The agenda will result in 16 PPS: 4 mobility products and respective complete value chains and 1 reconversion of buses; 1 set of connectivity devices; 7 platforms; 2 charging systems and 1 new infrastructure. A new national integrator (Simoldes/TMG), a new national builder (Caetano bus) and a new automotive FDI will be created.

Within this project, you will:

  • – Contribute to set up, carry out data collection protocols and conduct in-depth data analysis to generate high-quality datasets;
  • – Contribute to the selection/design of a novel predictive model architecture and development of a pipeline for model training and evaluation following a data-driven approach;
  • – Use a wide range of data science methods, supervised and unsupervised classification, object detection, segmentation, anomaly detection and OCR;
  • – Tailoring the AI implementing process for the execution of the AI models within and edge and/or server infrastructure;

More broadly, as a researcher in the DTx CGV group, you will:

  • – Translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • – Develop prototypes and proofs-of-concept using state-of-the-art methods in computer vision;
  • – Conduct data preparation, exploratory data analysis and feature engineering;
  • – Select the most adequate computer vision model(s) to address each problem, when applicable;
  • – Run training experiments and hyperparameter optimization;
  • – Optimize and accelerate DL methods for production deployment on edge or server computing;
  • – Customized creation of Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems capable of detecting the tiniest Object/defect feature;
  • – Communicate results within the team and to the associates in written and oral forms;
  • – Contribute to scientific publications from the results of the projects.


  • – MSc in a quantitative field: computer science, informatics engineering, electrical or electronic engineering, computer engineering, or similar;
  • – Strong problem-solving skills;
  • – Some experience handling data: preparation, exploratory analysis, feature extraction, visualization;
  • – Experience programming in Python, familiar with numpy and pandas;
  • – Experience using at least one of the following AI frameworks: Tensorflow/Keras, PyTorch or Halcon;
  • –  Understands common AI techniques like supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning;

The following will be considered a plus for this position:

  • – Experience in research, particularly in object detection models;
  • –  Experience in training single-stage models like YOLO on customized datasets;
  • – Experience with the Robotic Operation Systems and familiarity with Linux OS environment;
  • – Experience in deploying deep learning models on edge devices or cloud environment;
  • – Experience with methods/frameworks for deep learning inference optimization and runtime, such TensorRT or ONNX RunTime;
  • – Experience in deploying docker images.
