DTx is looking for a Master’s degree holder in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or related fields to join a multidisciplinary R&D team focused on the development of applied computer vision and artificial intelligence solutions for industrial environments as part of the “SmartVEG – Soluções alimentares inteligentes com base em vegetais” (SIID – I&D&I Empresarial – Operações em Copromoção), “Missão Interface – Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR; 01/C05-i02/2022)” and “Automação Constrastaria“ (PRR/IFIC – Reindustrializar) (NORTE2030-FEDER-02138100) and RAISE – Retail AI for Scalability and Excellence (COMPETE2030-FEDER-0303450) projects.
The Computer Graphics and Vision (CGV) team develops applied research solutions in areas such as automated optical inspection, quality control, process monitoring, product analysis, intelligent sensing and the integration of vision systems in real-world environments. The projects combine image acquisition, industrial cameras, 2D/3D sensors, controlled lighting, computer vision algorithms, multimodal AI models, AI agents, digital interfaces and integration with external systems. The team also explores emerging technologies such as vision-language models, vision-language-action models, world models and Physical AI approaches whenever relevant to the development of perception, inspection, interaction and decision-support systems in industrial contexts.
Applicants’ profile:
– Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or related fields;
– Knowledge of programming in Python and/or C++;
– Basic knowledge of computer vision, image processing and artificial intelligence;
– Interest in inspection systems, image acquisition and industrial applications;
– Learning ability, autonomy and problem-solving skills;
– Good communication skills in Portuguese and English;
– Experience with OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras, Halcon or equivalent tools;
– Experience with cameras, lighting, 2D/3D sensors or image acquisition systems;
– Experience in object detection, classification, segmentation, OCR or anomaly analysis;
– Experience with graphical interfaces, APIs, databases or system integration;
– Experience with edge devices, Jetson, ONNX, TensorRT, OpenVINO or embedded systems;
– Experience in R&D projects, prototyping or experimental validation;
Main responsibilities:
– Development and testing of computer vision algorithms for detection, classification, segmentation, measurement and visual inspection;
– Support in defining image acquisition setups, including cameras, optics, lighting and sensors;
– Participation in the collection, organization and annotation of datasets;
– Application of model optimization methods based on the training process, exploring techniques such as transfer learning, fine-tuning, active learning, reinforcement learning, pruning, quantization and knowledge distillation, aiming to improve the accuracy, robustness and computational efficiency of the developed models;
– Exploration of the combined potential of traditional computer vision methods, multimodal models and AI agents, promoting partial automation of inspection workflows, assisted analysis of results and intelligent support for the development of industrial solutions;
– Exploration, when applicable, of emerging approaches such as vision-language models, vision-language-action models, world models and Physical AI for perception, inspection, interaction and decision-support systems in real-world environments;
– Benchmarking of AI models;
– Development of prototypes and proofs of concept for validation in laboratory and operational environments;
– Support for the integration of vision modules with interfaces, databases, APIs or industrial systems;
– Execution of experimental tests, analysis of results and proposal of improvements;
– Production of technical documentation, reports and result presentations.
The candidates will be integrated in a multidisciplinary research group at DTx that works in close collaboration with academic, R&D and industrial partners.
The position is offered under an uncertain-term employment contract, linked to ongoing and future R&D projects in computer vision, artificial intelligence and industrial digital transformation, with the possibility of a hybrid working arrangement.
